Since 2017, the Food 4 Furry Friends initiative has mobilized Penn State Smeal students to support local animal shelters, showcasing a powerful trajectory of growth and community dedication. What began with collecting 3,551 cans in our inaugural Fall 2017 drive rapidly scaled to a monumental peak of 31,217 cans in Fall 2023. Over nearly a decade of biannual drives, our student-led teams have rallied the community to donate a lifetime total of 226,394 cans of pet food, providing vital nutrition and care to rescue animals at the Centre County PAWS animal shelter.
